Oklahoma City women will be honored by The Oklahoma City Chapter of the
Association for Women in Communications as 2010 Byliner Award
recipients.
The 2010 recipients of the Byliner Award are:
Sherri
CoaleSherri
Coale, head coach of the University of Oklahoma women's basketball
team, is considered one of the top collegiate coaches in the nation and
is being honored for her dedication to sports. Since 1996, the Sooners
have won six regular season Big 12 titles, four Big 12 tournament
titles and made ten straight appearances in the NCAA tournament. Coach
Coale's greatest accomplishment came during the 2001-2002 season, when
Oklahoma became the first Big 12 Conference team to advance to the NCAA
Final Four, appearing in the National Championship game. In 2005-06
Coale's team had an unprecedented 19-0 run in the Big 12 Conference and
Big 12 Conference Tournament winning both titles. Coale has been named
Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2000, 2001, 2006 and 2009.
Ann
Lacy
Ann Lacy, Oklahoma City University trustee and philanthropist, is being
honored as a successful private investor who has generously given to a
variety of projects in her community. Lacy has enhanced the educational
experience of thousands of students at Oklahoma City University. The
Ann Lacy Visitor and Admission Center serves as a key role on campus
giving prospective students a look at the university. Most recently,
Lacy contributed to part of a 7.25 million dollar renovation of the
Edith Kinney Gaylord Center, home of the world-renowned Ann Lacy School
of American Dance and Arts Management. The building has been dubbed as
the finest collegiate dance building in the Western Hemisphere. Lacy is
genuinely interested in helping OCU provide its students with a
first-class private education.
Jenny Love MeyerJenny
Love Meyer is recognized as a leader in the communication field .She
handles the internal and external communications for her family
business, Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores. She oversees the
disciplines of media relations, community relations and charitable
giving in her role of Director of Communications for Love's. A major
accomplishment has been her dedication to raise funds for Children's
Medical Network (CMN). She spearheads the Love's CMN Campaign and
during her involvement over the past 11 campaigns, she has raised $3
million via donations throughout the store network. Meyer has been very
active in a wide variety of community and civic projects, which include
Allied Arts, Oklahoma City Community Foundation and Foundation for
Public Schools, Red Cross and the Arthritis Foundation.
Pattye MoorePattye
Moore, honored in the business category, is a consultant, speaker and
author, specializing in leadership development, brand development,
marketing and strategic planning. Moore was president of Sonic Corp.
from January 2002 until October 2004. She was the first female
president in the company's 50 plus year history. During her tenure at
Sonic, she also served as executive vice president, senior vice
president, marketing and brand development. Over the 12 years Moore
was at Sonic, the company grew from less than $900 million in sales
with 1,100 restaurants to over $3 billion in sales and over 3,000
restaurants. Advertising Age magazine named Moore one of the "100 Top
Marketers in the U.S." in 2000. In 2002, Nation's Restaurant News named
her one of the top 50 women in foodservice.
Kerry
Robertson KerbyKerry
Robertson Kerby, a highly sought after professional speaker, trainer
and consultant is honored for her accomplishments in communication.
She's the founder of Kerry Robertson Communications, which specializes
in presentation and communication skills and media training. She has
written numerous training manuals and facilitated seminars for
companies and national organizations throughout the United States.
Kerry is also the author of "101 Ways to WOW 'em When You Speak" and
co-author of "Wise Words for Smart Teens." She was recently selected as
one of The Journal Record's 2009 "50 Women Making a Difference."
Oklahoma television audiences remember Kerry as the popular co-host of
"Dannysday", news anchor for Channel 9's early morning and noon news
and co-host of "Discover Oklahoma."
Carol Sorrels
Carol Sorrels, current Director of Marketing and Communications of
Orthocare Innovations, is honored for her work in Public Relations.
She's a seasoned publicist who has worked with national and
international media for more than 25 years. She served as Director of
Marketing and Communications for NovaCare Rehabilitation, Sabolich
Prosthetic Research Center and Mercy Health Systems. Sorrels engineered
and positioned each organization for tremendous growth in sales and
public awareness and placed them in national news such as: USA Today,
Newsweek, Dateline NBC, CNN Headline News, ABC Evening News, Good
Morning America, New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Entertainment
Tonight, Fortune, American Medical News, National Geographic Magazine
and many others.
Cathy Stackpole
Cathy Stackpole, recognized for her commitment to child advocacy, is
the CEO of Girl Scouts - Western Oklahoma, Inc., serving 13,000 girls
in 39 counties. She oversees all operations including program,
membership, finance, marketing, fund development, customer service, IT
and HR. She's active in the national Girl Scout organization, serving
as a member of the Council Campaign CoordinatingGroup for the
nationwide 100th anniversary of the Girls Scouts of America. In the
late 80s and 90s she was the CEO for two different battered women's
shelters and programs. She spent several weeks in Brazil through the
Partners for the Americas where she trained and educated police in
domestic violence and not-for-profit organizations in governance and
fund development.
Caryn C. Vaughn
Dr. Caryn Vaughn, an aquatic ecologist, conservation biologist and
educator, is being honored for her commitment to education. She's
currently the Director of the Oklahoma Biological Survey and a
Presidential Professor of Zoology, both at the University of Oklahoma.
She has broad training as an ecologist and has worked in a variety of
ecosystems and with a diversity of organisms. Dr. Vaughn believes that
most questions are best answered through a combination of approaches
and most of her research has involved field studies, field experiments
and lab experiments. She is an author of more than 50 peer-reviewed
journal articles and book chapters and more than 50 technical reports.
Dr. Vaughn lends her expertise to both state and local environmental
issues.
